The worlds infrastructure is powered by aging machines largely designed by enterprises in the industrial age… and only modestly augmented for the information age. IoT enables a new era of intelligent machines – designed and reimagined with embedded intelligence to create a Managed Enterprise Edge… but not if we don't fix the issues holding our customers back...
In this week's episode, Ken Forster, Founding Partner at Momenta, interviews Alistair Fulton, former SVP and General Manager of LoRa Wireless and Consumer Sensing at Semtech.
Alistair Fulton highlights, low-power, long-range wireless networks that are only just being realised when it comes to building smart cities and their full potential must be recognised.
The core concepts of the IoT are far from new, the technologies that underpin it are mature and widely available and the economic and environmental benefits are proven. If the value of IoT solutions is so clear why aren't they in use by every company in the world? The answer is simple - implementing IoT solutions is often complex, expensive and disruptive - how do we learn from the mistakes of the past to unlock the potential of the IoT to save the planet?
The Tech For Good Podcast explores technology’s growing role in solving humanity’s biggest issues. In this episode, Ben Mouncer speaks to Semtech’s Alistair Fulton about how LoRa can play a role in combating climate change.
The Ivy Podcast features episodes with the most accomplished executives from global organizations, who share insights and case studies. We focus on various relevant topics as Innovation & Strategy, Digital Transformation, Hiring and Retention Strategies, Creating Winning Company Cultures – and much more
Being able to monitor and control systems is not just important from the perspective of the Internet of Things (IoT) but it is also a way to secure energy and water networks. Cyberattacks on infrastructure, power and water supplies are an increasing risk, and the infrastructure has typically seen years of underinvestment and as a result can be poorly protected. There are millions of points of attack that are unmanned and vulnerable, and low power wide area network (LPWAN) technology can be used as a key enabler of safety in the infrastructure.
The development of technology to monitor the way in which we use increasingly scarce resources is vital for minimizing the environmental impact of human activity. Earth Day (22 April) is dedicated to highlights the need to make the most of the resources we have, what is the role of Massive Iot in Enabling This Future?
Robin Duke Woolley, CEO of Beecham Research sits down with Alistair Fulton, Vice President and General Manager of Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group at CES2020 to discuss the industry-wide push toward the simplification of IoT application development and driving accessibility of the latest technologies towards a broader audience.
An Update From The Early Days of LoRaWAN On Our Approach To Enabling A Rapidly Growing Ecosystem Of IoT Solution Providers
In this brand-new Quickfire Interview, editorial director, Jeremy Cowan chats to Alistair Fulton, SVP & GM of Semtech's IoT Division about their LoRa Device-to-Cloud platform, why connectivity is more critical than ever and how their collaboration with AWS will offer customers a competitive advantage.
Alistair Fulton is a mission-driven CEO, senior advisor, and global P&L leader with more than 25 years of experience transforming deep-tech innovation into sustainable revenue growth. Over the course of his career, he has scaled IoT, AI, data infrastructure, and semiconductor businesses across North America, Europe, and Asia, leading organizations from early product-market fit through international commercialization. As founder and CEO of IoT Labs, he now advises growth-stage companies, global enterprises, and private equity firms on strategy, product innovation, go-to-market acceleration, and capital formation, bringing a rare blend of technical depth, operational discipline, and investor engagement expertise.
Alistair’s executive career includes building and leading some of the industry’s most recognized platforms. At Semtech, he served as General Manager and SVP of the IoT Division, where he quadrupled revenue to $300M and established LoRa/LoRaWAN as the global standard for low-power connectivity, enabling more than 500 million devices worldwide. He embedded LoRa in networks such as Amazon Sidewalk and Helium, expanded the company’s total addressable market to $3.1B, and built a $1.5B funnel through ecosystem partnerships. Prior to Semtech, Alistair co-founded Hitachi’s Lumada IoT platform, scaling the business to $14B in revenue while pioneering digital twin solutions that aligned with the company’s board-level Social Innovation strategy.
As Chief Operating Officer of Blues Wireless, Alistair worked alongside founder Ray Ozzie to pivot the business from a product-centric approach to an ecosystem-first model. In under nine months, he built a 100+ partner network, generated a $120M qualified pipeline, and secured strategic partnerships with Arduino, Soracom, and The Things Industries. He also set the stage for the company’s $33M pre-Series B raise, managed M&A discussions, and strengthened investor confidence with Sequoia, Qualcomm, and other institutional backers. More recently, he was appointed Interim CEO of Emerge.io, a deep-tech startup redefining human-machine interfaces across AR/VR, industrial IoT, and gaming. There, he successfully re-engineered the GTM strategy, repositioned the product roadmap around proprietary MEMS IP, closed an $8M Series 1 funding round while navigating a critical strategic pivot.
Earlier in his career, Alistair was instrumental in Microsoft’s entry into IoT. He founded and incubated Azure IoT v1.0, secured executive sponsorship and funding, and realigned the $1.5B Windows Embedded business to focus on connected devices. In successive leadership roles, he built cross-platform IoT capabilities into Visual Studio and VS Code, and led acquisitions and investments spanning cloud, analytics, and IoT—including Xamarin, which became the foundation of Microsoft’s cross-platform developer strategy. Prior to Microsoft, he held senior leadership roles at Deloitte Consulting, O2 (Telefónica UK), and several early-stage ventures, where he developed a reputation for driving large-scale turnarounds and pioneering new growth strategies.
Today, through his consulting practice, Alistair helps clients navigate inflection points with clarity and speed—whether scaling technology platforms, executing cross-border M&A, designing channel strategies, or raising capital. He is recognized as a trusted advisor to boards, private equity investors, and founders, known for his ability to translate complex technology trends into actionable strategies that unlock growth and long-term enterprise value. With a career that bridges Fortune 500 companies, high-growth startups, and global advisory work, Alistair brings both vision and execution discipline, enabling clients to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving IoT and AI-driven economy.
